Fundraising for Calling Cape Town Challenge 2027
About Nicholas Minnie
My name’s Nicholas. I work in finance, but outside the office, I pursue adventures that are challenging, mildly uncomfortable, and somehow require more compulsory gear than common sense. You’ll usually find me either behind a computer analysing financial markets and researching events, or out there doing them. I’ve never met an easy option I couldn’t make harder, longer, or needlessly complicated. If there’s a straightforward route, I’ll find the scenic one. I reckon being able to do hard things is a privilege, so I intend to make the most of it. Always up for a great story and discovering exactly how far an adventure can go before it becomes a logistical incident. Still, nothing tests my limits quite like a compliance meeting.
My story
I’ve always liked pushing myself and taking on challenges that are probably a bit more ridiculous than they need to be. But if I’m going to put myself through something like this, I want it to be about more than just seeing what I can do. That’s what Calling Cape Town means to me. Yes, there’s the swimming, cycling, running, and a fair amount of questioning my life choices, but it’s also a chance to do something that could genuinely help someone else. I’m raising money for Calling Education, which helps learners from lower-income communities in South Africa access a better education. Having that opportunity can make a huge difference to a young person’s future as well as our countries. I’ll be uncomfortable for 24 hours, but that feels like a small price to pay if it helps give someone else more opportunities. If you’re able to donate, I’d really appreciate it. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help.

Calling Cape Town was started by passionate South Africans set on tackling one of the country’s biggest challenges - giving the majority of its children access to quality education.
Every athlete and volunteer takes on the challenge to raise funds for Calling Education, which has proven that you can run an independent high school delivering top-quality education for around R8,000 a year - from 60 learners in 2018 to more than 700 across three campuses today.
