Fundraising for Calling Cape Town Challenge 2027
About Brigitte Melly
Adventure-lover (and Bear’s human), back for my 4th Calling Cape Town. Still nervous, still showing up, for the kids and the community. 🐕🙏
My story
I’m not a traditional triathlete. I’m the person who says yes to the big, slightly unreasonable adventure and then spends the next few months wondering what I’ve done (over and over again). That’s how Calling Cape Town started for me. It looked like such a cool challenge, for a good cause, so I signed up. Four years later it still scares me (and somehow I’m less prepared each time!), and that’s part of why I keep coming back. I believe we’re made for more than staying comfortable. Every year I stand at the start line, nervous, and am reminded that I don’t have to do hard things on my own strength. The community around this event is kind and generous, and we show up for each other and for the kids at the heart of it. Crossing the line is great, but being part of something bigger than my own finish time is what I’m really in it for. Education changes the course of a child’s life, and Calling Education is helping make that happen. It’s a way for me to put my faith into action, using what I’ve been given (my legs, my love of a challenge and my community) to open doors for someone else.

Calling Cape Town was started by passionate South Africans set on tackling one of the country’s biggest challenges - giving the majority of its children access to quality education.
Every athlete and volunteer takes on the challenge to raise funds for Calling Education, which has proven that you can run an independent high school delivering top-quality education for around R8,000 a year - from 60 learners in 2018 to more than 700 across three campuses today.
