Werner Pretsch

Fundraising for Calling Cape Town Challenge 2027

About Werner Pretsch

I am professionally an advocate from both The Pretoria and Johannesburg Bar, and a daily advocate for marriage and kids. I currently have a seven-month-old daughter, with a brother or sister arriving in May 2027. I have without doubt a passion and a small addiction to endurance events. I enjoy difficult races, as they prepare you for the real world. I have completed Johannesburg Ultra (2021), Ironman 70.3 Durban (2022), Ironman Port Elizabeth 70.3 (2023), Ironman Mossel Bay (2023) (Ironman4thekidz team entry, second place), Oxpecker (2023), Ironman Port Elizabeth (2024), UTCT 55 km (2024), Ironman Durban 2025, Ironman Port Elizabeth (2025), and Mossel Bay 70.3 (2025) (Tour Medal). Over the years, I have also done at least more than 15 road races, trail runs such as the Cradle Cracker Trail Run (second place), four Sun City Ultra sprint or Olympic-distance races just to mention some. I have some bigger goals for the next year, such as UTCT 100 km and a Backyard Ultra. Unfortunately, I did not get a Comrades entry. I would love to participate in an exclusive event such as Calling Cape Town and, even more so, get involved in its fundraising. I trust that, through my networks in Pretoria and Johannesburg, I will be able to raise a significant amount as an individual.

    The Cause

We don't race for medals. We race so a generation of South African children can learn.

Calling Academy learners in school uniform on the sports field

Calling Cape Town was started by passionate South Africans set on tackling one of the country’s biggest challenges - giving the majority of its children access to quality education.

Every athlete and volunteer takes on the challenge to raise funds for Calling Education, which has proven that you can run an independent high school delivering top-quality education for around R8,000 a year - from 60 learners in 2018 to more than 700 across three campuses today.
